My Bookshelf Tour

Tuesday, April 19, 2011
I've taken pictures of one of my bookshelves. It's my favorite bookshelf actually. It's in my living room behind my couch. My grandfather made it himself. I sort of inherited it. The books are not in any specific order. They consist of series mostly as well as favorite authors or similar genres. Some I've read, and some are books I plan to read soon. Most are YA novels. The other shelves have my Fiction Literature; old textbooks; some YA novels; my Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and Robin Cook collections; and my romance novels. Anyway, I'm posting the pictures for you to see since I've noticed several other bloggers have done bookshelf tours. I have three other bookcases, but I'll have to take pictures of those another day since they are in the process of being reorganized. All of the pictures are larger if you click on them. I took them with my iPhone without flash, so they may not be great quality.

Angel is sleeping on the ottoman. Zeke is sitting on the arm of the chair after he jumped on the pillow and then decided he didn't want to lay there (See that smashed one on the right?). There's actually two more rows of shelves that are blocked by the couch. I may have to figure out some other way to set up the furniture if I end up needing the extra shelf space!

Here is a picture of just the books part of the bookshelf.

Doing the left side first and then the right side top to bottom, this is the top left corner shelf. Up top is The Host by Stephenie Meyer. I have the Twilight series, but my mom is borrowing it. On this shelf I have the Sweep series by Cate Tiernan, Goldengrove by Francine Prose (this is one of my favorite books), the first three books of the Luxe series by Anna Godbersen, the Partholon series minus Elphame's Choice by P. C. Cast (which I just noticed were in reverse order), the Seven Kingdom's Trilogy by Kristin Cashore, the Dark Elite series by Chloe Neill, and part of the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett (I have more of them floating around my bedroom somewhere).

My Finding Nemo painting. I did it my senior year of high school. It's not perfect, but I'm rather proud of it. I drew it out and painted it by just looking at a DVD case. The red paint in the Finding part probably should have stayed yellow, but at the time I thought that was boring and wanted to spice it up a bit.

And below that is a mixed genre shelf. Here we have Nightshade by Andrea Cremer, The Maze Runner series by James Dashner, Incarceron and Sapphique by Catherine Fisher, the Prophecy of the Sisters series by Michelle Zink, Wish and Wishful Thinking by Alexandra Bullen, The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting, Crusade by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie, Eyes Like Stars by Lisa Mantchev, Inside Out by Maria V. Snyder, books by Heather Gudenkauf, books by Sarah Dessen, the Strange Angels series by Lili St. Crow, books by Laura Wiess, books by Jennifer Echols, and The Mercy of Thin Air by Ronlyn Domingue (another favorite of mine).

The second shelf has ghosts, angels, and faeries. The books are the Ghostgirl series by Tonya Hurley, the Hollow trilogy by Jessica Verday, the Fallen trilogy by Lauren Kate, the Hush, Hush trilogy by Becca Fitzpatrick, Glimmerglass by Jenna Black, the Need series by Carrie Jones, the Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa, the Wondrous Strange trilogy by Lesley Livingston, the Wicked Lovely series by Melissa Marr, the Modern Faerie Tales trilogy by Holly Black, and books by Maggie Stiefvater.

Now we have the top right corner shelf which consists of books by Janet Evanovich. Below that is a somewhat random shelf of books by Kristin Hannah, books by Mary Alice Monroe, books by Jodi Picoult, and chick lit books by Jane Moore, Jane Green, Harriet Evans, Emily Griffin, and Pamela Ribon.

And below those we have zombies, vampires, and other things. There is the Morningstar Strain series by Z. A. Recht, books by Max Brooks, The Reapers Are the Angels by Alden Bell, the Undead series by Stacey Jay, the Forest of Hands and Teeth series by Carrie Ryan (which I also have on my Kindle because I like to have it with me at all times!), The Looking Glass Wars trilogy by Frank Beddor, the Heir Chronicles by Cinda Williams Chima, the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, the Tantalize trilogy by Cynthia Leitich Smith, the Evernight series by Claudia Gray, the Drake Chronicles by Alyxandra Harvey, the Devouring series by Simon Holt, and the Vampire Diaires: The Return series by L. J. Smith.

The second shelf has witches and other weird paranormally kinds of things as well as If I Stay by Gayle Forman (which is another favorite). The books on this shelf are The Mark by Jen Nadol, the Dark Divine series by Bree Despain, Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins, Once a Witch by Carolyn MacCullough, the Caster Chronicles by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, the Darkest Powers series by Kelley Armstrong, the Gemma Doyle series by Libba Bray, the Immortals series by Alyson Noel, the Midnight Twins trilogy by Jacquelyn Mitchard, the Wake trilogy by Lisa McMann, the Soul Screamers series by Rachel Vincent (I've got the second one out to read), Trance by Linda Gerber, the Touch series by Laurie Faria Stolarz, and The Pace by Shelena Shorts.

And below those in a very blurry picture we have my review journals and a random assortment of books. So far as the journals go, I have the two Read, Remember, Recommend books; the one for teens and the original. I also have the Book Lovers Moleskine, the Film Lovers Moleskine, and a regular Moleskine journal which I use to keep track of TBR/ARC stuff. After those we have The Pocket Muse by Monica Wood, the Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness, the Blue is for Nightmares series by Laurie Faria Stolarz, books by Scott Westerfeld, the Giver trilogy by Lois Lowry (I have The Giver, but it's in my bedroom at the moment), books by Laurie Halse Anderson, After by Amy Efaw, Tangled by Carolyn Mackler, Swoon by Nina Malkin, Extraordinary by Nancy Werlin, Ash by Malinda Lo, and Switched and Torn by Amanda Hocking (I have the whole Trylle trilogy on my Kindle, but I loved it so much I bought hardcopies. I just need Ascend to finish the shelf).

On the last shelf we have books by Jennifer Crusie, the Boy series by Meg Cabot (I've got the second one out to read), the MaddAddam trilogy by Margaret Atwood, books by Anita Shreve, the Dublin Murder Squad trilogy by Tana French, the Frostbite series by David Wellington, The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane by Katherine Howe, The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry, and last but not least books by Nicholas Sparks. The rock things on the shelves are pieces of calcite that my boyfriend gave me from his geology adventures.

That is a wonderful bookshelf. I have one that my father made from their old waterbed frame. It is so wonderfully sturdy that I just love it to pieces.

Love it! You have so many great books. It's really neat that it's homemade.

Your kitties are so cute! I love that one of them is just staring at the shelves.

Thanks for sharing! I love when others share their bookshelves. :)

@Jennifer A

Thanks! The one looking at the shelf is ornery. He likes to jump up on the shelves, go behind the books, and shove them out of the bookcase so he can sleep there! This bookcase always has to be full, so that he can't get behind them.

@The Lovely Getaway

Thank you! This particular bookshelf I didn't have to pay for, which is how I afforded it. My others are cheap $15 ones from Walmart. I measure cost based on books a lot. I was thinking, "Okay, $15 is one or two books. I guess I can get this in lieu of the books, so they aren't stacked on the floor (which is where they were before)."

I appreciate the admiration for the blog design too! I worked two days solid on it, so thank you. :D

That's really funny! One of my kitties loves shelves and any kind of cubbyhole, but she has yet to throw things off to sleep there. LOL!

You did it yourself? no way! that's amazing :) awesome job! your a very talented web designer.... do u do it as a job or just a hobby?

I didn't make the individual elements, although I have before. I just put them together into the blog background, header, and such then added the shadowing. I just do it as a hobby. I have played around with web design for three or four years more or less at random. Mostly I've made blogs for friends. I've never been paid for anything.
