Readathon Wrapup

Sunday, October 19, 2014

1) Which hour was the most daunting for you?
Probably hour 17. I was ready for bed but wanted to finish the book first. My eyes were burning.

2) Could you list a few high interest books for next year?
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion was very good and kept me entertained.

3) Do you have any suggestions for next year?
No, not really.

4) What do you think worked really well this year?
I thought most of it went well. It's been around for awhile, and the hosts seem to have the kinks pretty well worked out.

5) How many books did you read?
2

6) What were the names of the books?
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
Shelter Me by Catherine Mann

7) Which book did you enjoy most?
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion

8) Which book did you enjoy least?
Shelter Me by Catherine Mann - NOTE: I still enjoyed the book. It's just that I only read 2, and the other one I enjoyed more.

9) Not a cheerleader

10) How likely are you to participate again? Role?
I will participate again, probably still as a reader.

Had fun! See you in April!

Readathon Mid Event Survey

Saturday, October 18, 2014
Just getting home from work and ready to post my mid event survey.

1) What are you reading right now?
Finishing Shelter Me by Catherine Mann then starting The Shining by Stephen King.

2) How many books have you read so far?
1.75

3) What book are you most looking forward to for the second half?
The Shining

4) Have you had many interruptions? How do you deal with those?
I worked for 6 hours this evening. I was able to read some while there, but stopped when customers came in. I just marked my spot and went back to it after they left.

5) What surprises you most about the Readathon so far?
I'm not sure necessarily surprising, but I thought I would have read more by now even with working.

Readathon - Hour 4

How is your reading going along? I have finished The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion. My reading isn't going very fast this morning. I keep getting distracted! Here are my shelfies as part of The Book Monster's Mini Challenge.

Bedroom (self help, YA, paranormal romance, historical romance):

Dining Room (contemporary romance, YA, history textbooks):

Living Room (adult lit, chick lit, mysteries, zombies, horror, apocalypse):

Dewey's Readathon Opening Meme

Good morning! It was a bit of a rough night for me, and I'm feeling it this morning. Someone in the condo building pulled the fire alarm at 2am. The obnoxiously loud blaring gave me a headache, and it took awhile to get back to sleep after that adrenaline rush. This morning I feel a bit like I've been drugged. It's taking me some time to wake up!

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
Florida, U.S.

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
Finishing The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
I don't really have one because I didn't really plan specific snacks.

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I'm 26. I have a BA in history with a minor in library science. I work at a pirate cruise store, but I recently accepted a position as a library assistant which should start in the next month. I moved to Florida at the end of May from Missouri, and the beach is amazing! Go KC Royals!!

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what's one thing you'll do different today?
I didn't participate in April, but I have participated in the past. I'm considerably less organized this time. I'm winging it!

Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon

Thursday, October 16, 2014

I signed up for Dewey's Readathon!! I have participated in it in the past, including once when I did the full 24 hours, and I'm looking forward to it this weekend. Unfortunately, I won't be able to participate the full 24 this year, but I'm going to try to read for most of it. I do have to work the 18th and the next day. Luckily, I can read at work during the down time (and it's okay with my boss), so I should be able to participate quite a bit up until having to sleep for the next work day. My start time is 8am. I work from 2pm to 8pm, and there's no evening cruise, which usually means a slow day customer wise. And no baseball games Saturday for me. My KC Royals are World Series bound! *Cheers* I'll post my potential book list tomorrow. See you this weekend!

Read-a-Thon Update 2 (Hour 12)

Mid-Event Survey:
1. What are you reading right now?
I just finished The Haunted by Jessica Verday, and I haven't quite decided which to read next.

2. How many books have you read so far?
I've finished 2 books and a total of 642 pages.

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?
I wish I knew. I have so many I want to read that it's hard to pick the next one.

4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day?
Nope. I let my boyfriend know yesterday and that was it.

5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?
This year I am doing it much more relaxed than I did the last time. I'm only doing what I can without straining. The small interruptions only remind me to take breaks.

6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?
I can't say that anything does really.

7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
At this point, no.

8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year?
I am actually feeling pretty good about how I'm going about it this year, but next time I might schedule in some time to go to a library or a public place to read too.

9. Are you getting tired yet?
Well, it's only 7pm here and so far my 4 hours of sleep is holding up okay!

10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered?
I guess my best advice is to relax and enjoy the reading. Don't worry about whether or not you are reading fast enough.

Good Morning (or Evening) Read-a-Thoners!

How is your reading going? I am just starting. I knew I would never last even an hour if I woke up at 7am, so I slept another two hours. I will still probably take a nap in there somewhere since I did go to sleep at 5am! Anyway, this post is mostly to do the Welcome Meme and to set up some goals and a reading list.

Welcome Meme:

1)Where are you reading from today?
Missouri, US

2)Three random facts about me…
*I am taking a course on Piracy in the Americas over the summer.
*I have two cats; Angel is 10 and Zeke just turned 1.
*I have a bad habit of spending absolutely any extra money I get on books.

3)How many books do you have in your TBR pile for the next 24 hours?
Technically, I'm considering my whole collection fair game, but I've narrowed it down to about 20. However, I will never read that many.

4)Do you have any goals for the read-a-thon (i.e. number of books, number of pages, number of hours, or number of comments on blogs)?
I would like to read at least 5 books. I'm not a particularly fast reader, so if I do more than that, I'll be thrilled. So far as hours, I expect I'll read for at least 15 hours if not more.

5)If you’re a veteran read-a-thoner, any advice for people doing this for the first time?
Well, I've done this once about a year ago. My only advice is do not feel guilty about taking a nap if you need it (or waking up late or going to bed). I was up the entire 24 hours, but my reading actually suffered because of it. I couldn't remember most of the details of the books. Which brings me to another thing. Write down some notes to remember thoughts on books if you are not writing reviews until after the Read-a-Thon is over.

Working Book List:
  1. My Soul to Take by Rachel Vincent
  2. The Boy Next Door by Meg Cabot
  3. The Haunted by Jessica Verday
  4. Two for the Dough by Janet Evanovich
  5. The Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa
  6. Strange Angels by Lili St. Crow
  7. Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr
  8. The Eternal Ones by Kristen Miller
  9. See What I See by Gloria Whelan
  10. Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
  11. What Crazy Looks Like by Charlotte Hughes
  12. The Scorch Trials by James Dashner
  13. Lament by Maggie Stiefvater
  14. Ghostgirl by Tonya Hurley
  15. Much Ado About Marriage by Karen Hawkins
  16. Deja Dead by Kathy Reichs
  17. Dead Is a State of Mind by Marlene Perez
  18. The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett
  19. The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff
  20. Drought by Pam Bachorz
  21. Postmortem by Patricia Cornwell
  22. The Classic Slum by Robert Roberts (for a class)
  23. anything on my Kindle
Yeah, that's actually more than 20, but oh well.

EDIT: I meant to add that I have a Twitter account as well! @delicious_tales
